The joys of Babysitting

I have always loved kids. When I was in elementary school, I played house with my sisters and neighbors and I was always the mom. When I was in middle school, I babysit for all the members of the church I was going to. But, in high school, I got really busy. I went to an early college, which required a lot of time and work. But I really missed babysitting. It was an incredibly rewarding job. I really enjoyed spending time with kids and having an impact on their lives. It taught me some responsibility and I made some good money too. Money wasn't the point, obviously, but I liked getting paid to do something I loved so much. I would just like to share some very short stories that make babysitting so much fun.

To set the scene, I was recently at home with my parents, and my little sister Ryan was babysitting for one of my dad's friends, and I decided to tag along because I miss babysitting so much. I had only helped Ryan once before babysitting this little girl, Lexie, and we made an okay team. I ended up taking a nap with Lexie on the couch.

This time, it was Lexie and her older sister Haley. These two girls are a hoot. Lexie doesn't act the way most children act- interactions with her are talking to a small adult. The first thing we did we did when the girls' mom left was cook dinner. I was making spaghetti sauce when Lexie came into the kitchen and gave me a big hug, and said "I missed you." It sounded like she was going to start cry, so I scooped her up and asked her "Well I missed you too, girl. Do you wanna sit with me while I cooked dinner?" She just nodded her head and sat on the counter with me while I cooked.

After dinner, Haley wanted to show Ryan and me around the apartment complex they just moved into, so we went on a walk. All Lexie wanted to do was swing, so I got her started on the swing and sat down on the bench. Well, Haley wanted to swing too, and she walked over right when Lexie told me she needed me to push her a little more, and Haley, being eager to help, shouted "I got it!" But, Lexie turned her body in the swing trying to kick Haley, and responded "NO SIS!" There was a lady walking by the play ground with her dogs who heard the exchange and she was laughing with Ryan over it.

Once we got back, and we were getting ready for bed, Haley noticed that my hair was braided and she asked me to braid hers. So, she did everything she needed to be ready for bed and we still had a few minutes so I braided her hair, and we talked about hair care, and had a nice moment.

Overall, the whole event was a 10/10 and I cannot wait to hang out with the girls again. Being around kids makes me so happy, and if anyone reading needs a quick serotonin boost, hanging out with little kids is definitely the way to go.
